BLOG - It's an ultra-book and a slate, at the same time.

CES doesn't start until next Tuesday, but a product I've been interested in is already making headlines. The MSI Slider S20, which had a sneak peak unveil at the last Computex, is going to be featured in their showings at CES says MSI.

Even better, with the newly announced pricing and specifications, the previosuly touted 1366x768 pixel display has been increased to a full HD 1920x1080 IPS display, with 10-point multi-touch on its 11.6 inches.

The rest of the hardware includes an Intel Core i5 processor, a speedy 128 gigabytes of SSD, 8 gigs of DDR3 memory, a 720p webcam, WiFi b/g/n, and an ethernet port for those of you who want the untouched speed of a wired connection to the internets.

Upping the ante over the offerings of standard slates, the S20 has two USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, and the most unique feature, a keyboard that slides out from the tablet, turning it into a full fledged ultra-book (or as I would call it, a smallish laptop with a touch screen).

MSI says all of this can be yours for only $1199.99 sometime in the first quarter of 2013. Which is a little past the Q4 2012 date previously announced, but if they can squeeze some GPS in with that upgraded display, I'll be more than happy to wait.

What do you think of the Slider S20?

That looks very nice. My main concern is to be able to run more mainstream programs and peripherals rather than longer battery life or lower weight. This seems to fit the bill. It has twice the internal storage of my current tablet, four times the memory, and almost twice as many pixels, not to mention significantly more processing power. Other than a $1,200 price point, I'm sold (but then I have always been cheap).

The price is one of my only concerns as well.
But, I also want to see what reviewers think of the display quality, plus there could be other slider style tablets announced at CES.

Hey, we both bought EXOPCs. We love to rush in where angels fear to tread.

Actually, competition is a good thing. The more, similar devices that are out there, the more likely it is that prices will start to come down more quickly. I am starting to salivate at the thought of upgrading even though I still can do everything I need to for now. My wife doesn't understand upgrade fever.
