Exocommunity shut down? Empty Exocommunity shut down?

Post by Road Runner Sat Dec 29, 2012 2:04 am

If it is true that Exo (namely JB) has shut down new posts to the Exocommunity forum, then I feel let down.

Some of us are still monitering that forum as Exopc owners and as people who have supported JB and his project when he could use that early support. It doesn't cost much to keep it going and it could even be bought off from him if he doesn't want anything to do with it. For exopc owners, the information there and the presence of a few early owners can go a long way troubleshooting the slate. Shutting it down seems a betrayal.

I doubt JB had anything to do with the ability to post being implemented. Probably someone from the corporate end made the decision.
At least it is still readable for owners who need it for a resource.
Plus, we can discuss it here, and other companies' products, without worrying about whether we're breaking any sort of rules.

I'm a fellow EXOPC buyer and seldom user. My EXOPC has been back in the box for the last 3-4 months not used. I did install the Win 8 pre-release and I liked the metro interface.
I have been checking the exocommunity forum weekly for any news but I guess there will be nothing now. Hopefully it stays up so EXOPC users have a place for information.
This site I feel will be around for a long time as DreamCat won't leave the EXOPC pack. Thanks DreamCat for creating another forum for tablet users.

I think JB *is* the corporation.

I'm happy for this new forum DC has put up (though the Flash menu I'd do without), but I'd appreciate being able to post on "our" original forum to. It's not one or the other. In particular for new (still) Exopc owners.

    Anyway, 'nuf said

Yeah JB from what I remember is the company and the fact he gave orders to shut it down after 10-12 months of no official activity from them is pretty lame.

The company pretty much evovled using community interaction and it was pretty active from them up until about a year ago. Then complete silence and they pretty much ignored the forums. It is sad and lame they went out like this and could have at least posted something official explaining the new direction of the company instead of slapping us in the face like they did.

I'd still like to hear what the hell happened to them to cause them to turn their back on their customers like this.

I have felt let down on a lot of occasions as well!
Especially when the topic 3G and GPS came up before the first EXOPCs were delivered. Promisses made beforehand were just removed from the discussions!

Is that not possible? Perhaps the forum software will be updated to use HTML5 instead of Flash at some point.

    Guys:

JB is not, and never was "the company." He's not even the CEO. EXOPC has now gone public and the read-only status of the boards was instituted over my objections due solely to open discussion of competing products.

    I'm still with ya, guys.

You had objections? You were always such a shrinking violet. We could barely get a word out of you, much less an opinion.

I am glad you are representing. It does seem like old home week (chemist, murmur70, plantje, swanlee, billsey, Moon_Wolf, and darkkevind). I am about ready to lead a chorus of "Hail, Hail, The Gang's All Here". I hadn't seriously visited the exocommunity forum in months before I got Dreamcat's invitation to this new site.

    LOL Tim... Smile

I did need to effectively shut down much of my participation there due to my employee status. You'll see the unvarnished guy back here in all his so-called glory if the situation arises.

I am glad to see everyone here as well. As far as shutting the forum down because of discussing the competition, that's a joke. What competition? Exo is not even in the hardware game anymore, at least not consumer hardware.

Seriously? That's what I said (never mind "she"). My suspicion is that the reason has less to do with anything other than appearances where shareholders and investors are concerned. In other words, the boards were shut off for the sake of the fear of offending such individuals rather than any actual feedback from same. In all honesty, I could probably just report back to the boss that we will now moderate those forums and actively quelch such discussion and get the permission to restore full posting access, but at this point what's the use? I will, of course, be more than happy to post a few additional pointers towards this new forum in some visible places over there if anyone (Dreamcat?) feels it would help build the new community here.

I'll just "Like" this forum on Facebook and we won't be able to keep the new members away. It is called "Facebook", isn't it?
