Acer Iconia W3 Empty Acer Iconia W3

Post by Tim Marcum Tue Jun 11, 2013 10:25 pm

I just pre-ordered the Acer Iconia W3 tablet computer. It is suppose to ship by June 18. It is the first 8.1" Windows 8 tablet. Surprisingly, it is my EXOPC's equal or superior in everything except screen size. It has a 64 GB SSD, 2 GB RAM, a 1.8 GHz Atom processor, a 1280 x 760 resolution screen, front and rear cameras, mini-usb port, mini HDMI port, and a mini-SD slot. It runs true Windows 8 and comes with an included copy of MS Office Home & Student version. http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/02/acer-iconia-w3-8-inch-windows-8-tablet/

I will give a review when I get it. I never thought I would want a smaller screen, but my wife's Nexus 7 changed my mind. It is big enough to use easily, but small enough to be easy to hold and carry everywhere.

I've been thinking about a smaller screen tablet as well. With the high % of my time spent on my EXO being reading e-books or web articles, it would be more convenient, especially on the go.
I don't think I'd want to read digital comics on something smaller than around 10 inches. Anyone read comics on a smaller slate? Does it work okay?

For reading on a smaller screen, I'd want a quality IPS with good pixel density, but display quality seems to be a negative about the W3.
Let us know what you think when you get it, Tim.

If the screen doesn't cut it, back it will go. I will just wait until a better model becomes available.

As soon as I get it, I will post a review.

My review will be delayed.  I got a notice from Office Depot where I had pre-ordered my Acer Iconia W3 that "inventory from the manufacturer, Acer, has been delayed and the order will not ship on June 17th as originally stated." Instead, they say it will now ship on June 25 -- the day I leave on vacation for a week.  As recompense Office Depot is sending a $50 e-card for merchandise at their store.  At least that reduces the price of the tablet because I buy a lot of stuff from Office Depot.

I will report when I eventually get it
